What is Your Best Diet?

Perhaps, like me, you hate diets, but you really want to lose weight. Even the best diet seems like torture to you. The best diet I can think of is one where I can eat what I want and still lose weight. Is that possible? Here’s why I think it is.

Weight Watcher ™ Diet Principles

To give credit where credit is due, all I know about losing weight, I learned from WeightWatchers ™. While their program may not work for everyone, some of their principles are well worth understanding. The best diet is one that you can stay with forever. In other words, the best diet is not a diet, but a lifestyle change. If you learn how much of which kinds of foods to eat, you can control your weight much more easily than going on a restrictive diet for a short period of time and then gaining the weight back. The secret principle to the WeightWatchers ™ best diet is taking responsibility for your eating habits.

Your Best Diet is Your Resolve

Very simply put, as long as you put your heart into the goal of losing weight, and take responsibility for your progress, you will be able to stay on track. That means that your best diet is one that you create yourself, based on information about what foods to eat and what foods to avoid, or have in moderation. On the Weight Watchers ™ diet, there are not really any foods you cannot have. You just take responsibility for the fact that if you have a huge hamburger with fries for one meal, you can only eat salads for the others, for example. By counting the points in your food, you know how much you can have for the day. Salads count 0, so when you blow your allocation on junk food, you just balance it with other foods the rest of the day.

Taking Responsibility for Your Diet

There is nothing so empowering as being responsible for your own diet. It means eat what you want, and be aware of the consequences. You quickly learn by your own experience that it is not much fun to eat all your points in one stupid choice, and then have to restrict your eating for the rest of the day to vegetables. No one is telling you what to eat or not eat. You are just living with the consequences of each and every choice you make about what you put in your mouth, moment by moment. When you are responsible, you quickly learn to cooperate with your own higher motivation. In short, the best diet is the diet that you yourself want to follow, because you want to lose weight, and be healthy. Good luck.
