Never Lose Weight Fast

How many websites and books have tempted you with their promise to “lose weight fast?” Whether it is a special pill, diet, or exercise machine, each time you see the words ‘lose weight fast’, our advice is to run the other way. There are just too many reasons to avoid these promises and gimmicks. Here are a few.

It is Unhealthy to Lose Weight Fast

The basic reason that it is unhealthy to lose weight fast is that your body works as a machine. It gradually puts on weight, and it can intelligently and gradually take weight off. But if you try and take off weight fast, you are stealing from parts of your body that need the weight. You steal from muscles, organs, you name it, and most of all, from your cells which keep you healthy. Bottom line: there is no healthy way to lose weight fast.

Losing Weight Fast is Impermanent

If you lose weight fast, odds are quite strong that you will gain that weight back just as fast. There are several reason. First, most ways to lose weight fast are plans that reduce calories dramatically over a few days. Once the few days are past, and you return to your normal eating habits, you will find the weight comes back. Permanent weight loss is accomplished by a change of eating habits and exercise that is sustainable for the rest of your life. It is a lifestyle change, not a crash diet.

Losing Weight Fast Usually Loses Water Not Fat

Very often, in the lose weight fast crash diets, the weight you are losing is not body fat but water. You want to lose body fat. Water is the stuff that keeps your body live. Depriving your cells of water because of an unhealthy crash diet or pill will create serious health problems over the long run, and again, is not a sustainable way to lose weight.

Lose Weight Gradually

Losing weight gradually, about one to two pounds a week, is a commitment to a lifestyle change. You begin to monitor your eating habits. You add exercise to your daily routine. You switch to healthy vegetables and whole grains. You eliminate bad fats and excess sugar. You watch the amount of carbohydrates. Each of these steps takes time. You need to make small adjustments at a time for them to last and take effect. It is actually proven that for a new habit to take place, you need to repeat it at least nine times. If you apply that to your eating habits, for each change, you need to have at least 9 meals. For example, if you are changing to olive oil, you would want 9 meals that use olive oil before it is a habit. If you are eliminating sugars, you need at least 9 meals without extra sugar before it is a habit. So you can see that for each change, if you make it a change at a time, you need time to accumulate the new habits. Lose weight gradually, and you will find that you will not need to go back again and again to lose weight fast, as the weight will be gone, for good.
