How to Lose Weight Without Stress

If you are ready to lose weight, you may already be tensing up about the prospect. Here’s how to lose weight without stress, by following these simple weight loss principles.

Don’t Push Too Hard

One reason weight loss can be filled with stress is that people set their expectations unreasonably high, and then push themselves to lose weight really fast. Every small error in eating or any slight gain in weight creates a feeling of stress and failure. Change your attitude. Accept that you will take time to lose weight, and that is okay. Even if it took you an entire year to reach your desired goal, you would have done so without adding stress to your system. The truth is that stress is counter-productive to losing weight. When you feel stressed, you turn to comfort foods such as alcohol, sugary foods or fried foods to make yourself feel better, and there goes your weight loss. However, if you can keep a steady state of mind through the whole process, calming observing yourself, you will make progress.

Choose your Weight Loss Plan Carefully

As part of losing weight without stress, you must take time in the beginning to set your plan. You may decide to join a group, such as Weight Watchers, or you may select a diet to follow on your own. Whatever your method, be sure to check into the plan first for several things. Are the foods ones that you will enjoy eating? Will you have to make too many sacrifices in your eating habits? Is there a great deal of pressure to lose weight fast? Pick a group that is supportive and understands that going into a weight loss program is a life style choice, and a long-term commitment rather than a quick fix.

Involve Your Family and Friends

It can be very stressful if you are trying to lose weight and everyone around you is oblivious to your needs. Your friends invite you to dinner and serve cream puddings and butter-drenched potatoes. Your family insists on going out to eat several times a week at restaurants known for their calorie-laden desserts. Your family wants you to make them foods that you know will be tempting to you and also fattening. All these will create stress as you try and lose weight. The best advice is to be sure everyone has agreed to support your weight loss goals before you start your weight loss program. Let them know what is involved for you and what kind of support you need from them. If you are not going to get the support you need, you may need an alternative plan, such as going away for a few weeks.

Keep Things in Perspective

One thing that can add to stress is when you lose perspective about weight loss. There are several reasons to lose weight. If they are health-based and life-threatening, you should be working with a doctor. However, if the weight loss is because you just feel fatter than you’d like to, lighten up your attitude, and then you’ll lighten up the work of getting lighter.
