Avoiding Fast Weight Loss

Here are some tips to help you avoid fast weight loss. Losing weight fast is not good for your health and will not be sustainable in the long run. But it is so tempting to try to go for a fast weight loss program. Here’s what to do:



Set a long-term goal

If you want to lose 20 pounds set your goal to do so over a five-month period. That is about one pound a week for twenty weeks. It is certainly possible that you might lose one and a half to two pounds on occasion, in which case you’d reach your goal early. On the other hand, there are times when you might slip back a bit. If you set an achievable long-term goal you won’t set yourself up for disappointment, which could cause you to quit or give up.

Watch for Plateaus

As you progress in your gradual weight loss program, you may find that you are staying the same weight for several weeks, and yet you haven’t reached your goal. This is not the time to try and go for a fast weight loss. Instead, examine what you are eating and try varying the foods. Sometimes the body gets too used to the same foods. Also be sure you are not under-eating. If you under-eat your body will hold onto the fats in your body, and you will not lose weight.

Avoid diet pills and diet teas

To stay healthy and create a good weight loss program, you do not need artificial help such as diet pills and diet teas. These are often promoted as a way to give you fast weight loss. However, weight loss can be accomplished in a more natural method by following a healthy diet plan. So stay away from things that promise fast weight loss.

Don’t crash diet

Do not suddenly stop eating everything that you think is bad for you, without any sensible plan. Of course, you could cut down on sugar and fried foods, but with any change, it is best to do it gradually, so that your body can get accustomed to the change, and also get accustomed to the new foods. Most of all do not starve yourself in the name of fast weight loss. It is totally unnecessary.

Join a sensible weight loss program

To avoid fast weight loss, use a program that understands the value of taking time to lose weight. Whether it is Jenny Craig or WeightWatchers, or one of the self-managed diet programs such as the Sonoma Diet, you are better off using a pre-planned program that will help you lose weight sensibly. With the help of others who have lost weight and kept it off, you are less likely to be give in to pressure to try and take some shortcuts and do it fast. Fast weight loss is not a good option.
