Eight Diet Tips

Once you decide to lose weight, and are going on a diet, you need help to meet your goal. Here are ten diet tips to make the diet you choose work for you:

1. Find allies to work with while you diet

At GoalTribe, we have seen first hand that reaching goals like losing weight depends on the great support you get from allies. Enlist your friends and family to be your ally, on GoalTribe, to encourage you with sticking with your diet. Let them know how much you appreciate and need their encouragement.

2. Don’t be obsessive and strict about your diet

There is nothing worse than obsessing about every thing you eat and every eighth of a pound you lose. Lighten up…in your mind. Don’t hold the reins too tight. If you are too strict with yourself, you will rebel, sooner or later, and all your hard work will go down the drain.

3. Build in time off into the diet

Whether it is one meal or one day, make sure over a week period there is some time to just relax and eat normally. This one day will make you appreciate the hard work you are doing and refresh you enough to continue.

4. Build in exercise that you love

No matter how good the diet, the effects of it will be multiplied if you add exercise to your diet. Set yourself up with a walking partner and walk 20 minutes a day, and you’ll find that the diet results are even better than advertised.

5. Keep drinking water

Even if the diet you are on does not call for extra water, take our advice and drink eight cups of water a day. It not only keeps you hydrated, but it creates a feeling of being full and helps you cut down your eating.

6. Use portion control

No matter what food you are eating on your diet, the best way to manage the intake of food is to monitor your portions. If you are eating cheese, make it a small piece. If you are having a piece of fish, don’t go for the big piece. Always give yourself enough to eat, but not too much. This is especially true in restaurants.

7. Eat out less frequently while on a diet

It may seem obvious, but self-control that is needed for a diet is just much harder to come by when you are gazing at a tempting menu. Everything looks so good, that it is hard to resist. The hard part of eating out is that you don’t really know how the food is prepared, and even if it looks like a food on your diet, it could be drenched in butter or oil. Eat out less, save money and lose weight.

8. Don’t crash diet

It’s fine to go on a diet, but be sure the diet you chose has enough calories to sustain you at your current weight. There is no reason to go around hungry. It will not make losing weight achievable and it’s not good for your health.
