Create Your Own Cookie DietWhat could be worse than going on a diet to lose weight and being told you could no longer have your favorite cookies? Imagine how hard it would be to stick with that diet. Or perhaps cookies are not your soft spot, but ice cream, or cake is. What can you do to lose weight and not give up your favorite snack? And, is there a Cookie Diet? Yes, there is a cookie diet First, starting with the title of the article, there is a cookie diet, or to be more specific, there are several cookie diets. The original Cookie Diet ™, by a Dr. Siegal, was started almost 30 years ago. In this diet, the use of cookies made with protein, among other ingredients, is meant to curb your appetite in order to help you control your eating. It is not that the cookie makes you lose weight, but that because you have cut your craving, you can manage the food that you do eat. After this diet became well-known, other cookie diets appeared on the market, with varying degrees of success. Create Your Own Cookie Diet More to the point, how to have your cake and eat it too. Rather than looking at other ways to cut your appetite, perhaps it is time to look directly at the foods you are eating. The fact of the matter is, while one cookie won’t make you lose weight, it also won’t make you gain weight either. The trick to including cookies in your diet is to set up your eating schedule so that you are not starving at meal time. This means including high protein snacks at several times during the day. It means drinking sufficient water (8 glasses) during the day as well. Both of these work just as well as buying someone’s expensive cookies. They have the effect of cutting the craving, balancing your blood sugar, and giving you the sensation of being full. Then, when you eat your meal you are less likely to over eat. Your meal can include a cookie for desert, and no harm is done. The Best Cookies For Your Diet If you are going to include cookies in your diet, it is helpful to know which are better for you. Cookies with nuts and raisins, for example, have a better effect on your blood sugar than cookies that are filled with sugar and cream. It is also not necessary to have cookies with artificial sweeteners, as those sweeteners are generally not that healthy. You can find cookies that are ‘fruit-juice’ sweetened that are every bit as tasty as any sugary cookie. Also look for cookies that use whole grains, such as oats, or brown rice, as those complex carbohydrates will help with your weight loss. Don’t be afraid to include chocolate covered cookies…you won’t gain a pound if you don’t eat a pound of them.
