Getting Accountability for Your Goals

Here are some tips for getting people to hold you accountable to follow through on your goals.

Determine Your Goal

Determine the goal you will accomplish. Focus your energies on completing the tasks to accomplish your goal. Determine why & when you want to accomplish your goal. Write down the goal and the tasks.

Success Partner

Set aside some time to search locally and online for a solid support person or group, your success partner. Determine there will be a level of accountability. Know that accountability is a two way agreement. Not only will you be held accountable to reach your goal, you will also hold your success partner accountable to complete tasks leading to their goal.

Honesty is the best policy

You and your success partner are establishing a relationship based on honesty and trust. There will be tough times. When offering support and receiving support remember, honesty is the best policy. Be kind while being honest and the relationship will grow in the right direction.

Keep in touch

Determine a fair amount of time to pass before checking in with your success partner. It may be once a day or weekly. Update each other on your successes, brainstorm ideas to increase strength in weak areas, and plan to go to the next step with your goals and with your success partners goals. This is true support keeping you motivated as well as held accountable. Keep in touch, be kind, and be honest.

Celebrate Success

Once a goal comes to fruition, whether for you or your partner, celebrate the success! Be creative and have fun while celebrating together. Life is a journey and goals we set are at times treacherous. Show your success partner you appreciate the support with celebration.
