Losing Weight with Healthy Diet Foods

So you’ve decided to lose weight. Good for you. Now, what are you going to eat? The reality is that you can lose weight in any number of ways, but not all of them are healthy. And you can eat any number of foods, but again, not all of them are healthy. Here are some foods that are both healthy and perfect for weight loss.

Fresh Vegetables – Raw or Cooked

Number one on any weight loss diet must include vegetables. They add very little weight, provide lots of vitamins and fiber, taste good, and most of all, are healthy. Notice we said fresh vegetables, not canned, and preferably not frozen. Anything other than fresh will have some sort of preservative, not the best thing for health. In addition, fresh vegetables will cost less. Raw vegetables are great to have around for snacks. A fresh carrot instead of a chocolate bar goes a long way towards easy weight loss. A piece of celery, even with a dip, is much less costly to the waistline than bread and the same dip. Just keep a package of raw veggies in the refrigerator, and train yourself to reach for them whenever you get an urge.

Nuts and Raisins

Let’s face it, diet or not, you will want to snack. But what are you going to snack on? There are many diet bars out there, but if you read the ingredients, they sound like a chemistry class, rather than food. On the other hand, nuts and raisins, in moderation, are really good for you. They provide protein and some natural salts and sugars, but don’t overwhelm your digestive system with artificial ingredients. A handful of raw cashews, for example, every two hours, can cut your cravings, keep you healthy, and still help you lose weight.

Fruits before Meals

Many years ago, it was my family’s habit to serve a half a grapefruit prior to the meal. This was way before the ‘grapefruit diet.’ What they were doing intuitively was satisfying the need for sugars, so that the system could settle down and eat the rest of the meal slowly and gratefully. It is quite helpful to have a bit of fruit at the start of the meal. It is also important not to have fruit at the end of the meal. Fruit breaks down in our system quite quickly. When you eat it first, you stabilize the insulin in your system, and let the fruit become to decompose. As you add other foods, which are much slower to digest, they don’t get in the way of the faster digested fruit.

Water, Water, Water

You may not think of water as a food, but it is, and it is one of the best diet foods there is. Keeping your body hydrated with at least 8 glasses of water a day will help you lose weight and keep that weight off. Use purified water, and you’ll be amazed at the health benefits.
